Removing Third-Party Like Statements

  • "Something is wrong! I have these statements showing up saying I ’like’ them but I never did. I have used the Like link on a few statements I have seen, but now these things seem to be posting by themselves. What gives?"

It seems a week doesn’t go by that there is something new and different Facebook users need to protect themselves from.

This is a sneaky one because most people don’t realize that their account has been hacked and that these messages are going out as updates on their behalf.

The lure is that people can easily create their own custom statement for people to Like. Unknowingly, they have given access to their Facebook account to these sites to use your Facebook updates to lure more unsuspecting people to either Like the statement, Like statements others have created, or create their own custom statement.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM HERE?

Here’s a screenshot of what we’re talking about.

Third Party Like Statement on Facebook

This is a popular trend happening on Facebook as the statements range from the humorous, to the serene, to the vulgar, to the rally cry of a cause. But there is a fairly easy way to identify them...the ending on the statement has either a link or a symbol.

Third Party Like Statements on Facebook Home Page

Our suspicion is that these sites are trying to drive up traffic volume to their sites so their ad revenue and prices can increase. Here is a list of suspect sites:

  • likey
  • thelikepage
  • ilikeat
  • youlike
  • likeeverything
  • likewut

There is some variation of an ending on the URL (.com, .biz, .info, .net, etc.) or there is an additional word or phrase in the URL address (e.g. like.likewut.net).

HAS YOUR FACEBOOK BEEN HACKED?

So how can you find out if your account has been compromised? Go to your Profile Page and scroll down through all of your activities listed on your Wall. Anything that has been posted will show up here. If you see something that shouldn’t be there, roll your cursor to the right and press the Remove button that appears.

WHAT CAN I DO TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING?

If these statements show up on your Wall, your Facebook account has been compromised. You must change your Facebook password. Read these visual, step-by-step instructions on how to do this.
